For more than 30 years, industry has turned to Spiralock when it needs to keep critical and demanding threaded joints from failing. Spiralock’s wedge ramp thread self-locking thread technology adds a locking feature to tapped holes that prevents vibration loosening while still allowing standard external threaded parts to spin freely during assembly.
This achievement is the result of a carefully engineered wedge ramp at the root of the internal thread that only engages when the joint starts to build clamp load during tightening. At that point, the crest of the standard external threads draws tightly against the wedge ramp, eliminating all radial clearance and creating a continuous spiral line of contact between the internal and external threads. The outcome is a simple yet effective way to transform a traditional threaded joint into a safer and more reliable design element.
Spiralock products solve fastening issues in a variety of applications across a wide range of industries, including aerospace/defense, electronics, medical, automotive, truck, farm and construction, oil and gas and others.
Using Spiralock self locking threads eliminates the need for spring washers, toothed washers, thread locking sealants, adhesive patches, disk locking washers (Nordlock type), nylon inserts, cotter pins and all other types of thread locking devices.
What is Spiralock?
A self-locking female thread form with a 30 degree wedge ramp at the root of the thread
The wedge ramp allows the bolt to spin freely until clamp load is applied. At that point, the crests of the standard male thread are drawn tightly against the wedge ramp, creating a continuous spiral line of contact along the entire length of the thread engagement.
