Why Multi grip Rivets

For many years POP Avdel has been at the forefront of rivet design and manufacture. Many of what are now considered to be standard products across the globe began life at the drawing boards in Welwyn Garden City. Avex multigrip rivets, Monobolt structural rivets, Chobert, Briv, Rivscrew and all other Speed rivets all began life here. All of these products either solved assembly problems or improved production speed and quality considerably.

Avex is a case in point. Until Avex multigrip rivets came along the only other option were solid rivets, or simple nail type breakstem rivets which are still commonly used today. The problem with nail rivets is that they have a limited grip range, look very poor if the rear side of the joint is visible and offer no sealing qualities whatsoever. When introduced Avex rivets were far more flexible and instantly improved the look and performance of the assemblies it was used on.

When installed nail rivets shorten slightly and expand as the nail (or mandrel as we call it) is pulled through until it reaches a predetermined load and snaps off. The tail side is always left open and if the rivet used is too long takes on a curved shape which looks thoroughly unpleasant.

Avex rivets can handle a larger range of material thicknesses and during installation expand and collapse to form a neat bulb which sits tightly behind the panel. This produces a joint which looks much smarter, is stronger owing to the larger bearing area created and also water resistant.
