PEM self clinching fasteners offer a cost effective method of installing metric and imperial threads into all types of sheet and cast metal. PEM self clinch fasteners come as nuts, studs, threaded standoffs, snap top standoffs, double flush rivets, cable ties, right angle brackets and various other forms.
Self clinch fasteners offer benefits over rivet nuts (also known as riv nuts) or rivet bushes (also known as Hank bushes).
Compared to rivet nuts PEM self clinch fasteners offer a lower rear side protrusion and improved torque to turn characteristics.
When compared to rivet bushes PEM self clinch fasteners offer improved performance in terms of torque to turn and push-out. in addition when installed a self clinch fastener is below flush on the face side giving much improved cosmetics compared to a rivet bush which has to be peened over on the face side during installation. Last of all Self clinching fasteners will work in almost any thickness of sheet compared to rivet bushes which are extremely sensitive to sheet thickness – and hence require a much larger inventory.

See How self clinch fasteners are installed
1. Prepare a properly sized mounting hole in sheet. Do not perform any secondary operations such as deburring. 2. Place shank of nut into mounting hole, preferably the punch side.
3.With punch and anvil surfaces parallel, apply squeezing force until the head of the nut comes into contact with the sheet material.
